About Our Shea Butter:
We get our UN-Refined Shea Butter from a group of village and large town workers in a place called Sokode. Which
is located in the Country of Togo, on the continent of Africa, one of the 53 countries. A place where the
pictures are not often as pretty as the postcards. It is important for my business partner and I to make a difference
and to purchase our Shea Butter from a group of woman that not only handcraft our Shea, but are paid fair wages and treated
fairly for their work, which in turn, gives them AND their family a better life.
We do not work directly with this village, we buy from a supplier that is active with the Sokode workers and
have established GACE. (Global Alliance for Community Empowerment) They are paid a salary that is 30% higher than the national standard and provide them with a pension plan, vacation,
sick and family leave, and overtime. Work environment is comfortable, well ventilated and lit, with potable water provided
to all members.
To read more exclusively on Shea Butter please see our page "Facts on Shea Butter". But really, I would like you to continue on below, then move over to Facts of Shea! <smile>
What are doing:
We donate 10% of the proceeds from our UN-Refined Shea Butter to WFP ~> World Food Programme. I take pride in knowing that I can do something for the better of others that are living
in a world that we Americans (MOST) are completely not only clueless but blind OR unwilling to accept the facts that in many
countries starvation is real. We are a country that is OVERFED yet UNDERNOURISHED. We are also one of the most
RICHEST countries that gives the LEAST (goverment speaking) PLEASE take the time, to read at the
WFP link above. If you dont' like Shea Butter (who don't though?) and you want to help, please do so by donating online.
Angelina Jolie grabbed my attention with her work. Not by me clapping my hands and saying
"good girl, donate some of your wealth, yippeeee", but doing something, making a difference. Angelina Jolie has written
a book called "NOTES FROM MY TRAVEL" and the link to purchase her book from AMAZON is below. As an amazon.com reader,
I always suggest buying USED, well worth the money. This book is well worth the read.
I hope in the future that not only can I donate MORE to WPF, but to also contribute more out of my personal pocket.
Just remember: (below is copied from the www.wpf.org, and each of the 4 listed programs below are an active link so you may read more about these.
- Emergency operations to feed the victims of man-made or natural disasters. A WFP ration for
one day for a family of four, can cost as little as US$1. In some counties, the cost is even lower; for instance,
In Sudan, a food ration costs an average of 15 to 20 cents per person per day.
- Recovery projects in which food aid is used to pay people to rebuild their communities in the wake of humanitarian tragedies – US$99 can purchase 5,000 cups of rice to feed an entire community.
- Development programmes, which make people more food secure so they concentrate on improving their lives instead of worrying about the next meal.
For only US$21, WFP can provide food for one month to a woman and three of
her children while she receives training.
- Global School Feeding, which guarantees meals for some of the world's 300 million undernourished school children. With a donation of only US$34, you could feed a child for an entire school year.
Amazing. I had always thought, """I dont' have enough $ to make a difference"""",
then I seen that above, you know,,,HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW in BOLD?...But
I spend more then $1.00 on a soda,,,I spend more then 100.00 a week in groceries and STILL go back for more in the week,,,,and
$21.00 is less then what it costs to feed 2 of my children for 1 week in school. (they have to pack) So $34.00
to feed a kid for a year in school? Get my point?
ABOVE: This is the book by Angelina Jolie and her travels. It is like reading a un-perfected
book, and this makes it a smooth read, and far more real. It is broken up day by day about what she see's and does in
Africa. WELL worth the read.
BELOW: This is the movie that really changed my direction and gave me the drive to find something
to do that made a difference. This movie is about a high society lady that is moved forever during a "Black & White
Ball". She puts her high life behind and goes to Africa. Very moving movie, well done. A bit graphic so
I don't personally don't recommend it for small children due to violence.
